Friends of Santa Fe Trail

Grab your bike, running shoes or walking partner and explore the inherent beauty of historic neighborhoods along the Santa Fe Trail.

Skip over to one of the three parks for fun, down to Deep Ellum for a bite to eat or up to White Rock Lake for water sports, a picnic or a few extra miles.

The 4.3-mile Santa Fe Trail offers an easy-to-navigate concrete path through East Dallas with informative signage, a repair station and convenient connections to other trails and parts of our fair city.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Jason Roach, cyclist

My favorite thing about the Santa Fe Trail is that is gets me from Downtown to White Rock Lake, and all the trails up there. It gets me off the road providing a safe route.

Jessica Ragsdale, resident on Santa Fe Trail

I feel so lucky to live along such a well maintained path that provides not only access to beautiful natural resources, but also offers a safe, off-road course for runners, cyclists and other athletes

Angela Hunt, former Dallas City Councilmember and [self-described] lazy cyclist

I love that the Santa Fe Trail is a critical link in what is becoming a comprehensive trail system across our city. But more than anything, I really, REALLY love Friends of Santa Fe Trail and their dedication to this great recreational and transportation amenity! Many thanks for all you do!

Paul Sims, Parks & Recreation Board, District 14

I truly appreciate the Friends of Santa Fe trail for planting trees, posting helpful signs, maintaining rest stops, and all of the things that make the trail an enjoyable outdoor experience for my family, the citizens in District 14, and anyone in Dallas who loves time spent in nature.

Jesse Moreno, Parks & Recreation Board, District 2

My favorite part of the Santa Fe Trail is that it’s not only a recreational trail but it’s public transportation: People use it to get from home to school and from home to work. I also love that fact that it crosses multiple districts. It crosses 2, 7, 9 and 14, so we have a lot of different demographics within those boundaries and it makes for a more inclusive trail. You have cyclists using it for recreational purposes as well as kids like Woodrow Wilson High School students using to safely cross roads to get to school.

Vance Holub, Eagle Scout Troop 42 and fundraiser for Eagles Nest rest stop

I wanted to be a part of a project that would benefit the whole community, and improving a local trail gave me the opportunity to do just that. Since my mother runs the Santa Fe Trail often and I ride my bike on it when I have the time, we were very aware of the real need for amenities such as those at Eagle’s Nest now.
